· MUMBAI: The state public works department (PWD) will construct a building in every district using crushed sand, instead of river sand, to see if it can be an effective substitute. In a letter last month, the PWD told its regional offices to use crushed sand and report its efficacy within three months.
In largescale plant tests, R cement was manufactured by combined grinding of clinker, crushed sand, and sulphate agent. The crushed sand used originated from crushed concrete, recycled brick and roof tile material, track ballast and railroad sleepers. The R cements corresponded to the strength classes of N up to R.
